Tadalafil: The Patient Half

Same target as sildenafil, entirely different pacing. This is where the 36-hour figure comes from.

What it is

Tadalafil is a prescription erectile dysfunction medicine approved in 2003 and the active ingredient inside Cialis. Like sildenafil it has been in ordinary clinical use for two decades and is among the most prescribed medicines of its type anywhere.

In HardRx it is the component that keeps things going, and it is the reason the tablet is described as covering up to 36 hours.

Same enzyme, different clock

Tadalafil blocks the same enzyme sildenafil blocks. It is not stronger and it does not act through a different pathway. The difference is entirely about how long the drug remains in your system before your body clears it.

That gives it a slower build and a much longer tail. Taken alone, that trade is either excellent or irritating depending on the evening — ideal if you took it yesterday, frustrating if you want something within the next twenty minutes.

What 36 hours means, precisely

It does not mean an erection lasting a day and a half. If that ever happened you would need an emergency department, not a website.

It means that for up to 36 hours after the dose, your body responds more easily when you are aroused. In between, nothing is happening and you are not walking around noticeably medicated.

The benefit men actually describe

It is rarely about the erection. It is about not having to decide in the early evening whether something might happen later. Removing that decision takes a surprising amount of pressure out of the whole subject.

Side effects

Same family, so the common list is familiar: headache, flushing, blocked nose, indigestion, light-headedness. Tadalafil is the more likely of the two to cause back or muscle ache, typically appearing 12 to 24 hours after the dose and clearing without treatment.

One practical difference matters. Because tadalafil lingers, a side effect it causes can last longer than the same effect from sildenafil. Worth knowing before your first dose so a persistent headache does not catch you off guard.

The nitrate warning stretches further with this one

Because tadalafil stays active far longer, the window in which nitrates are dangerous extends well over a day. If you ever need nitrates in an emergency, tell the treating clinician you have taken a PDE5 inhibitor and roughly when.

Who cannot take it

The exclusion list matches sildenafil's, because both drugs act on the same enzyme and lower blood pressure the same way. Nitrates and riociguat are absolute. Recent heart attack or stroke, unstable angina, uncontrolled blood pressure, severe liver or kidney impairment and a history of NAION all rule it out.

Alpha-blockers for blood pressure or prostate symptoms do not automatically exclude you, but the physician may want the doses spaced apart. Put them on the form.

Common questions

Tadalafil is the medicine inside Cialis. Cialis is Eli Lilly's brand name for it. HardRx contains tadalafil but is not a Lilly product and has no connection to the company.

The drug remains active that long for many men. It makes a response easier during that window; it does not produce anything by itself.

It is a recognised tadalafil side effect, usually 12 to 24 hours after the dose, and it normally passes on its own. Tell the prescriber if it keeps happening.

Because tadalafil is slow to build. Sildenafil covers the opening stretch it cannot, which is the whole argument for putting both in one tablet.

Safety information

Take only the dose you were prescribed and never more than one in 24 hours. HardRx is not suitable alongside nitrate medicine or with several heart conditions. Side effects are usually mild — headache, flushing, a blocked nose, feeling light-headed. Nothing here is medical advice; read the full safety page before you order.
